atynews.com – Turkey is reported to have begun the construction process to build a site that will be a place for the S-400 missile system purchased from Russia.
Reporting from CNBC, Saturday (8/9/2018), CNBC news station first reported the construction of the site through satellite imagery they observed.
In the report it is said that the new construction being worked out matches the pattern for the placement of the Russian S-400 surface-to-air missile system.
Indeed, the purchase of the S-400 air defense system carried out by Turkey from Russia has been opposed by the United States (US).
Turkey has signed an agreement with Moscow to purchase the S-400 missile system. The value of the purchase agreement reached USD2.5 billion.
US media, quoting sources familiar with Ankara’s activities, reported that the new construction being worked on matched the pattern for the placement of Russian S-400 surface-to-air missile systems.
The S-400 system is claimed to have a greater firing range than the United States High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile system. In terms of price is also cheaper.
Turkey is scheduled to receive the S-400 next year. In 2020, the acquired system is expected to be ready for war.
The Ankara and Moscow agreements went smoothly when Congress was determined to block the sending of two F-35 stealth fighter jets from the US to Turkey.
