atynews.com – The South Korean military has reportedly sent a number of their fighter jets to intercept Chinese military aircraft entering the country’s airspace.
Reported by Reuters on Saturday (28/07/2018), it was revealed by the Joint Chiefs of Staff of South Korea (JCS) in a press statement.
South Korea’s defense ministry then called on Chinese embassy officials to protest.
The Chinese aircraft was aired for more than 4 hours inside the Korean Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) after flying near the coral in the waters held by South Korea but also claimed by China.
Therefore, South Korea immediately responded by South Korean Air Force to track and give warning to leave the South Korean territory.
According to the News, South Korea has sent more than one aircraft fighter jet.
The defense ministry also called Defense Attaché at the Chinese Embassy in Seoul, Du Nong Yi, to protest. South Korea firmly called on China to take steps to prevent a similar incident from reoccurring in the future.
“The government expressed regret for this incident very seriously,” the defense ministry said in a statement.
There has been no comment from Chinese authorities regarding the incident.
