According to the same report, US troop presence in Australia has increased since the first rotation of 250 soldiers in 2012.
Currently about 1,500 military personnel have been stationed in the Northern Territory of Australia along with US weapons and aircraft.
The Defense Department said that the shipment of 2,500 troops was following a meeting between the US and Australia this week.
Increasing US military footprint is widespread in the Pacific region, with some 22,000 Marines stationed in Okinawa, Japan, 7,000 in Guam and 28,500 in South Korea (South Korea).
US forces will also integrate in the upcoming Indo-Pacific Endeavor workshops. They will also conduct a series of exercises in Fiji, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, Tonga and Vanuatu.
