atynews.com – A woman in Saudi Arabia is reported to have been arrested by the police for running to the stage and hugging a singing male singer.
The singer named Majid Al Mohandis was performing at a festival in the western city of Taif on Friday.
Police said that if a woman who is not identified, she has been detained at Al-Taif Foundation for Women Care.
“The suspect was detained at the Al-Taif Foundation for Women Care pending an investigation,” the police said.

Mohandis, who on his personal website called “The Prince of Arab Singing” declined to comment on the incident. The Iraqi-born singer, who also has Saudi citizenship, continues to perform after the hug incident.
Saudis had previously applied strict restrictive rules for women, including attending public events. However, in the past year, the restrictions have been eased in line with the reform policies launched by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
