Russia Responds to Donald Trump’s Statement

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. Photo: Reuters – Russia responds to allegations of US President Donald Trump saying that Germany has been controlled by Russia.

Reported by Reuters on Thursday (7/12/2018), it was delivered directly by Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov in a press statement.

“Regarding Germany’s dependence (on Russia) as a major gas buyer, we can not agree with this premise,” he said.

He said the gas pipeline project is a form of mutual need of both countries. Not a German dependence on Russia.

“The supply of piped gas does not cause one country’s dependence on other countries, but to complement each other, it is a guarantee of stability and future development,” he continued.

Reported earlier, German Defense Minister also denied Trump’s statement.

Germany’s Trump statement was based on the country’s decision to approve the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline from Russia to Europe.

Germany has indeed rejected US pressure to block Nord Stream 2, which is scheduled to be completed by 2019. The project is an extension of the Nord Stream natural gas pipeline opened in 2011.
