Quoted from the official website of the South Korean presidency on Wednesday (13/6/2018), Moon Jae-in said the meeting and the deal became a historic event.

“This June 12 Sentosa Agreement will be recorded as a historic event that helped destroy the Cold War heritage on Earth,” Moon said.

He also expressed his appreciation for the courage of the two leaders to meet and dialogue to discuss peace on the Korean Peninsula.

“I convey the highest honors for the courage of both leaders, President Trump and Leader Kim, who are not fixated on obsolete realities, but dare to take a step toward change,” Moon wrote.

Following the signing of the deal, Trump also expressed a desire to withdraw US military forces from South Korea, which has been considered the North’s threat to the sovereignty of the country.

He also realizes that the road to full peace will be tortuous, but he promises not to look back and keep fighting for peace.

“I, as President of South Korea, pledge to make every effort to help achieve lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula and bring a new era of prosperity,” Moon wrote.
