atynews.com – Canada, through Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland said that the meeting between Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un is essential for peace on the Korean Peninsula.

“We welcome the dialogue between US and North Korean leaders taking place today in Singapore, which is an important step towards the progress of peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula,” he said.
He also said that sanctions against northern Korea must continue until the denuclearization process is complete.
“The sanctions imposed by the global community on Pyongyang must remain in effect until the North changes its action,” continued Freeland.
Related to sanctions, the North Korean media, KCNA said Trump had indicated it would lift sanctions along with ending military exercises with South Korea (South Korea). KCNA said Trump also declared its intention to offer security guarantees to North Korea and lift sanctions during talks between the two countries.
It is said that Jong-un said North Korea can take unspecified additional steps that are worth it if the US takes sincere steps to build trust.
